Sony PRS505 ebook reader – silver
Students and leisure readers alike will love this stylish ebook reader with its great 6 inch e-ink screen and front-mounted controls.
You’ll love reading novels, textbooks or essays on your Sony pRS505 ebook reader and be able to carry about the whole term’s books in your pocket. Battery life is about 7,000 page turns, which means you’ll need to charge it every week or two. This is because the e-ink display doesn’t use any power to display your books, and the ebook reader only needs to call on the battery for page-turns and other physical operations.
Charging is by the supplied USB lead, which you can connect to your PC, laptop or netbook or plug into a separate mains/USB charger which you can buy for a few pounds. Ebooks are loaded from the internet to your computer, and from there to the Sony ebook reader via USB, or by means of an optional SD which plugs into the edge of the reader.
Contemporary books can be purchased and downloaded online, and there is also a vast range of free classic books whose copyright has expired. The Sony PRS 505 comes complete with a number of free books already installed, so you can hit the ground running.
It’s great for novels, fiction and general books in text format, but the Sony has a PDF reflow feature which means that it makes a great reader for PDF books where pictures and graphics play a large part.
You can even set your own text size to suit yourself, so if your eyesight isn’t what it used to be, then the Sony could be the reader for you.
No wonder the Sony PRS 505 is the biggest selling ebook reader in the UK.

Ebook readers versus netbooks?

I’ve been reading a post on the cheap netbooks blog that suggests a netbook is as good for reading on as a dedicated ebook reader.
Well I’m here to tell you that is not the case.
Look at the little fellow on the left who’s been reading on his netbook for an hour – and that’s what it will do to you too!
But on a serious note, while a netbook makes a great computer, when it comes to reading for a couple of hours on end, there is no substitute for a dedicated ebook reader.
The reason is simple: it’s the fact that there’s no backlight.
Try it out for yourself and see. Put a PDF file on your netbook and however good the screen, if you read it for more than half an hour, it will feel as though your eyes have been sandpapered. Now turn on your ebook reader, start reading, and before you know where you are, you’ll be as relaxed and immersed in the book as if you were reading a real paper book. For real reading, e-ink wins over TFT every time.
What’s that? You don’t have a dedicated ebook reader? Well you’ve come to the right place. Just go to our home page and you’ll quickly find the perfect ebook reader for you. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
